I will be backpacking across Europe next summer. Do you have any tips or idea’s? Where should I go?

I want to know what are the best places in Europe are to visit. I’m also looking for tips on ways to save money and being safe.

what do you mean by “backpacking across Europe?” Are you really going to walk? If not, I highly recommend the Eurail pass which is a train pass valid in most EU countries.

Also, make sure every single thing you take with you can fit inside ONE bag. This will make travel much easier and help you keep track of everything.

Get off the beaten track and away from all the popular tourist attractions – this will help you save money, and also really experience the true culture of a country.

Talk to people – find some locals who are friendly (usually in a pub) and just talk with them. You can learn a lot this way, and may even find someone who would be willing to let you stay the night or give you a tour the next day.

Go to www.couchsurfing.com – here you can find places to stay for free. People open up their couches for people who are traveling to sleep on, which equals free accommodations. It is safe, and people must be ‘verified’ to make sure they aren’t unsafe.

Being safe – get one of those money belts. They may have been given a bad name from movies like Euro Trip, but they really are about the best thing you can get. Passport, money, travel documents….if your bag gets stolen, these are the things you really NEED….so keep them ON you at all times.

Don’t exchange money – put all your money into a bank account and use an ATM card. ATM’s are abundant in Europe, and using them gives you the exact exchange rate at that moment, and doesn’t incur any fees that you would have to pay otherwise.

How long should I spend backpacking India?
From north to south? I’m not into lying on beaches for days at a time, or sitting being idle/relaxing, I would like to be on the go, with the odd day to allow myself to recharge. I don’t have a strict plan, want to see as much as I can, 6 months is the absolute maximum amount of time, but is it too much time? I’ve calculated that I’ll be spending 6 months in the other neighbouring countres, so if I go for 6 months in india, that’s a total of a year, far too long?

A monrh in Kerala soon went, Six months will go quickly too.
Kerala is wonderful. Scenery, people, Kathakali, beautiful poetry and singing, the cool fresh hill stations and the endless waterways.
Spend as long as you can. It.s so cheap to live, money isn’t a problem.

As a US citizen, do I need a visa to enter Mongolia from China?

Backpacking in Asia. Is this do-able? Tips?
Hi. I’m planning on backpacking around Asia for about 3 months or 4 months. For now, I’ve very roughly planned out what I want to do. But I just want some advice from experienced backpackers out there.

I’m from Australia. So I’m flying first to Singapore. From there:

Malaysia (KL), Thailand, Laos then Hanoi. From Hanoi I was planning on catching a train to Beijing. Then travel down to Hong Kong. From Hong Kong, fly to Cambodia. Then fly back to Singapore. Then fly back to Darwin, Australia where i’ll catch the Ghan train to Adeliade. Then go home…

How much do you think the whole trip will cost me? Any tips, advice and suggestions will be most welcome.
